Hypnopompia

$600.00

Hypnopompia ll oil on canvas ll 100 × 40 × 4 cm

This original textured oil painting is inspired by the phenomena of Hypnopompia - the state of consciousness leading out of sleep and waking - and the sensation of our dreams, sensations and their images and shapes falling away into coloured blobs as we fight the requirement to open our eyes and join reality.

This original work involves numerous layers of oil paint layered with pallet knife and brush to achieve a three dimensional quality and the feeling of something falling away/grasping to retain those dreams, feelings, images that felt so real moments before. This unique process has been slowly developed over the past five years, taking over a year for this work to be completed to ensure each layer and the work in its entirety is properly dried before varnishing and being made available for sale.

Black is the primary colour here, with flickers of different colour and shape, red, blue, green, yellow, colours that give hints at something being lost/dissolved.

The edges of this work are painted lamp black to enable immediate hanging (unframed). It is of course able to be framed, please contact me for updated quote. The work is signed on the lower right side edge.

The work is signed on the side and has a signed stamp of authenticity on the back of the canvas. The work is varnished and strung with cord, ready for immediate hanging.
